Top 5 Phrasal Verbs Related to Travel

1. LOOK FORWARD TO

You need this phrasal verb before you actually go on holiday. If you look forward to something, you are excited, you cannot wait for this moment to arrive. When you’re stuck in the office, you always look forward to going on holiday. 

NOTE:

• You look forward to + gerund  – E.g. You look forward to going on holiday
• You look forward to + noun – E.g You look forward to your holiday

2. GET AWAY

Sometimes it is just nice to get away... this means to escape your daily routine, escape your house, your job, the people you see, the typical jobs you have to do all the time. It’s nice to get away and isolate yourself from your normal life.
 

3. SEE OFF

When you see someone off, it means you take them to the airport, or you take them to the station and you wave goodbye to them.

4. POP IN

"Pop" means "go" in a very informal, casual way. If you pop in to the shops it doesn't mean you spend a long time in the shops, but it means you go in and out. If you are on holiday, maybe you don’t want to spend all day in the museum but you could pop in, or you could pop in to the coffee shop for a quick coffee.
 

5. STOP OVER

If you go on a very long flight, for example you go to Australia from England, then you need to take two planes. You normally stop over in Asia somewhere. For example, once I visited Kenya, and I went from Manchester to Dubai and then Dubai to Nairobi. I stopped over in Dubai.
