The weather is one of the most common topics of conversation in England, mainly because it’s always changing! In this article we look at the most useful vocabulary and expressions to talk about the weather in English.
Firstly, and most importantly, it is important to learn the question that we use to ask people about the weather…
“What’s the weather like?”
You can, of course, add more information to this question:
“What’s the weather like today?”
“What’s the weather like today in London after yesterday’s rain?”
This is usually the second question we ask each other on the phone, usually after “How are you?”
Note:
1. We always use the pronoun ‘it’ to talk about the weather.
2. We usually ad the letter y to the end of the noun to make an adjective to describe the weather (sun -> sunny / wind -> windy…)
3. We can either describe what ‘it‘ is doing, using a verb. Or we can use an adjective to describe ‘it’ (the weather)…
