English idioms

As is the case with other languages, English is full of idiomatic expressions that should not be translated literally, as their literal translation does not represent their true meaning.

These idioms quite often conjure up a mental image that helps us understand them better, the origins of which are usually centuries old, and from completely different context. Studying the history of these expressions is often a very interesting trip back in time!

Learning idioms allows you to speak English more like a native speaker, and for this reason we recommend that you follow our Facebook and Twitter pages, where we regularly post such expressions.

And of course, you can practise using these idiomatic expressions via Skype with one of our native English-speaking teachers. Book your first online English class today — totally free!
